Description of Significance THE GOVERNOR DOUGLAS H JOHNSTONE HOUSE IS A 1 1/2 STORY QUEEN ANNE STYLE HOME. BUILT IN 1895, THIS RESIDENCE HAS A HIGHLY COMPLICATED ROOFLINE WITH STEEP GABLES, AS WELL AS A LARGE WRAP AROUND PORCH WITH DECORATIVE SPINDLES AND BALUSTRADES. THE HOME RETAINS ITS ORIGINAL WOOD SIDING, WINDOWS, AND DOORS. MR. JOHNSTON BEGAN HIS CAREER AS SUPERINTENDENT OF BLOOMFIELD ACADEMY AND THEN BECAME GOVERNOR OF THE CHICKASAW NATION. LISTED IN THE NATIONAL REGISTER, 8/5/1971.
